01 / ABOUT THE PLACE

About this place

Skewers of carefully selected domestic chicken roast slowly over binchotan charcoal, arriving at the table enveloped in a fragrant cloud of smoke. At KOYOI, grilling over high heat is attuned to bring out the distinctive character of every chicken cut. The house specialty tsukune (chicken meatball) is coated in a master tare sauce rich with the layered flavors of its ingredients, with options to order it tsukimi style with raw egg yolk or paired with grated daikon and ponzu. Diners can also look out for limited cuts such as kokoronokori, the tender meat between the heart and liver. For an easy introduction to the grill, a set course of assorted yakitori skewers featuring the signature tsukune makes a satisfying starting point.

Small Plates and Thoughtful Drinks Snacks

The kitchen backs up its charcoal offerings with an extensive lineup of side dishes and drinking bites. Staples like the signature Koyoi Potato Salad and iburigakko (smoked daikon pickle) with cream cheese provide sharp, savory contrasts for a first drink, while slow-cooked Wagyu beef tendon stew offers deep richness. Beyond poultry, the menu highlights diverse sourcing with daily sashimi assortments sent straight from Toyosu Market and seared special-grade beef sagari (hanging tender) tataki.

An Easygoing Evening in Nishi-Shinjuku

Set on the 2th floor of a commercial building in Nishi-Shinjuku 7-chome, the interior offers counter and table seating, alongside semi-private booths divided by bamboo blinds. The drinks menu spans beer, sake, and wine, with all-you-can-drink course packages also available upon consultation. Because dinner service often fills up, reserving a table in advance is recommended.
